Sixteenth Meeting of the IPU Advisory Group on HIV/AIDS and Maternal, Newborn and Child Health

  1. Introduction of members of the Advisory GroupMembers of the Advisory Group will be invited to briefly introduce themselves, describing why they have joined the Group, their responsibilities in parliament and their areas of particular interest.
  2. Status report by the IPU SecretariatThe Secretary of the Advisory Group will provide an overview of activities and results in the areas of HIV/AIDS and Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) since the last meeting of the Group.
  3. Areas of engagement in 2016 and 2017The Advisory Group will discuss its future areas of engagement. The focus will be on strategic priorities and opportunities, and areas in which the IPU can make a strong impact. In this context, the Group will discuss opportunities for collaboration with key partner organizations: UNAIDS, WHO, UNDP, PMNCH and the Global Fund. Special attention will be paid to operationalization of the IPU commitment to the Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health.
  4. Advisory Group activities at the global levelIn 2016, the IPU will organize parliamentary meetings at the World Health Assembly (Geneva, 23-28 May), UN High-level Meeting on HIV/AIDS (New York, 8-10 June), and the 21st International AIDS Conference (Durban, 18-22 July). The Advisory Group will discuss preparations for these events, as well as other aspects of its engagement around these major conferences.
  5. Advisory Group activities at the national levelThe Advisory Group will discuss how it and its individual members can support IPU projects and activities at the country level. It will also discuss possible venues for its next field visit.
  6. Election of the ChairThe Advisory Group will elect its new Chair for a one-year term. He/she will be eligible for re-election for one further term.
